Video Poker is a favored game that can be wagered on in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your computer, using an Internet account. The rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player trying to achieve the greatest assemblage of cards as you can in order to win cash. In this respect it is much the same as a normal game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘distributed’ on the video screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and enthusiasts should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the enthusiast wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the enthusiast has chosen which cards he wishes to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are given out if desired. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Generally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from game to game, so that skillful players are agile enough to pick the most money-making ones each instance.
Once the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Further, some styles of the game allow the player a chance to double their profits, in which case a further hand is played. There are also differences among specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing aspects to increase playability.
