Video Poker is a popular game that can be wagered on in casinos throughout the world, or alternatively at your house on your PC, using a net account. The rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to achieve the best combination of cards possible in order to acquire cash. In this respect it is much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the interaction with competing players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will be "given out" on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and players should now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the player would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it is all or none.

After the player has chosen which cards she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards will be given out if desired. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can change from machine to machine, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to choose the most profitable game every time.

As soon as the first round has played out, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that has been won. Additionally, several styles of the game allow the bettor a chance to double their profits, in which situation a further round is played. There are also variations among specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other differing aspects to increase playability.
