Electronic Poker is a popular game that can be wagered on in casinos all over the world, or in your house on your home computer, through a net connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to achieve the best combination of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it’s much the same as a normal game of poker, apart from the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the enthusiast inserts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A 5 card hand will then be "distributed" on the screen.

The Video Poker game also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers should now choose which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has selected which cards he or she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be given out if desired. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.

Generally, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can change from game to game, so that knowledgeable players are agile enough to select the most profitable ones every instance.

After the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to increase their earnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that has been won. Additionally, a few styles of the game give the bettor a chance to increase their wins, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also variations among individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing aspects to increase playability.
